    Altamont has released a time-lapse video showing “before, during, and after” conditions of a 2-mile section of the North Pacolet River in Polk County where Altamont spearheaded an effort to stabilize failing streambanks, enhance riparian vegetation and habitat, and place into conservation a minimum 50-foot-wide riparian buffer.  The project is part of a Watershed Plan that will restore and place into conservation the riparian area along the entire main stem of the river within North Carolina, a distance of 18 river miles.

    Altamont's project engineer Paul Dow coordinates and manages the installation of four new landfill gas extraction wells at the closed Dillsboro Landfill in Jackson County, North Carolina.  The wells were installed to supplement the original nine landfill gas extraction wells, which were installed in 2005 to supply methane to the Green Energy Park (GEP).  According to Timm Muth, GEP Director, “It’s important because it will allow us to maximize our gas supply here at the GEP.

    Altamont’s Marta VanDussen, E.I. attended the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) Meeting in Krakow, Poland last week.  GMI is a multilateral partnership, the purpose of which is to “create a voluntary, non-binding framework for international cooperation to reduce anthropogenic methane emissions and advance the recovery to use of methane as a valuable clean energy source”.  Ms. VanDussen, who is a native of Lubin, Poland, joined nearly 200 participants from 37 countries and 6 continents in this partnership-wide meeting.

    After five years at Altamont as a Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) and ecology specialist, Anna Saylor, has taken a 9-week leave of absence to vacation in New Zealand with her husband.  They have been visiting both islands and Anna will return to Altamont in November.

    Jennifer Hill-Verde, E.I. has re-joined the Altamont staff after a two-year hiatus.  Ms. Hill-Verde originally joined Altamont in 2005 after earning a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado.  At Altamont, she focused primarily on environmental assessment and remediation, environmental compliance, and stormwater management.  Ms. Hill-Verde left Altamont in 2009 after the birth of her second child and spent two years living in Mexico with her family.  She returned to both Asheville and Altamont in August 2011.

    Lisa Manning, P.E., LEED AP is leaving our company to join Green Opportunities (GO), an Asheville-based community-based development organization that provides innovative green collar job training and placement programs.  Lisa will be Water Team Project Manager at Green Opportunities, developing a water quality and stormwater training curriculum and providing training for individuals in the GO program.  Altamont offers best wishes to Lisa and Green Opportunities.
