Altamont Assists Polk County Agricultural and Development Center
Altamont was contracted by the Isothermal Planning and Development Commission (IPDC) to perform a Brownfield site assessment for the new site of the Mill Spring Agricultural and Development Center. The center is the result of ongoing restorations to the 40,000-square-foot former Mill Spring School, which served the community from 1929 until 1992. The center serves as a resource for agricultural development, farmland preservation, education, community service, and business development. It will offer meeting facilities, classrooms, training kitchens, administrative offices, demonstration gardens. It may also serve as business incubator with a small business service center, and could eventually include a farm fresh cafe, a permanent farmers market, greenhouses, and nature trails. The center is a project of the Polk County Farmland Preservation & Agricultural Economic Development Board.
