CERCLA Remediation Systems Operation and Maintenance

Altamont currently provides Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services at an 1,100-acre NPL (EPA Region IV) site in Western North Carolina. The company is responsible for all aspects of remediation system O&M as well as financial management of the overall remedial action.

This CERCLA remedial action system includes the following components:

• Groundwater extraction utilizing 14 extraction wells (12 in one system and 2 in another)
• Groundwater treatment utilizing equalization, pH adjustment, air stripping, carbon absorption, and flow measurement
• Discharge to a Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW)
• Sampling and analysis of approximately 94 extraction and monitoring wells
• Maintenance of six capped disposal cells (approximately eight acres)
• Maintenance of approximately four miles of roads
• Management of an escrow account for payment of permit fees, monthly POTW discharge fees, and various vendors.
