During the last 18 years, Altamont principals and staff have been involved with the investigation and remediation of over 20 sites on the National Priorities List (NPL). These sites have been located in several states. Members of the company have provided their expertise on numerous CERCLA and RCRA assessments and remedial actions including groundwater extraction and treatment. As an example, Altamont currently provides Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services at an 1,100-acre NPL (EPA Region IV) site in Western North Carolina. The company is responsible for all aspects of remediation system O&M as well as financial management of the overall remedial action.
This CERCLA remedial action system includes the following components:
- Groundwater extraction utilizing 14 extraction wells (12 in one system and 2 in another)
- Groundwater treatment utilizing equalization, pH adjustment, air stripping, carbon absorption, and flow measurement
- Discharge to a Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW)
- Sampling and analysis of approximately 94 extraction and monitoring wells
- Maintenance of six capped disposal cells (approximately eight acres)
- Maintenance of approximately four miles of roads
- Management of an escrow account for payment of permit fees, monthly POTW discharge fees, and various vendors.
