Replacement of Existing Water Storage Tank
Jackson County, North Carolina
Water quality concerns were identified at the Ralph J.
Andrews Park and Campground in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The water quality concerns were related to
poor well construction and inadequate water quality storage. Altamont was contracted to oversee the
rehabilitation and redevelopment of the water supply wells and provide
coordination, design, and construction oversight services for the replacement
of a 5,000-gallon capacity aboveground water storage tank. An analysis of the existing system
was conducted using existing groundwater well capacity information and
hydraulic modeling software. The
proposed storage tank replacement was designed according to North Carolina
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Public Water Supply
Section (PWSS) guidelines. Construction
documents were distributed to local contractors and an informal bid process was
conducted.
Altamont provided coordination services and construction oversight for the installation of the access road, construction of the foundation for the proposed storage tank, and the fabrication of the storage tank. Additionally, Altamont coordinated with the existing water system operator and oversaw the installation of new piping and system control features (i.e., gate valves, system control house replacement and reconfiguration). Altamont also verified the new system was properly disinfected prior to public use of the system.
