Altamont Services

Spill Prevention Planning and Stormwater Compliance Monitoring

Location:
TEAM Industries Andrew, Inc., Andrews, North Carolina

TEAM provides power-train and chassis components for recreational, agricultural and industrial off-highway markets.  Altamont provides technical environmental and engineering services to assist TEAM in complying with the many environmental rules under which they are regulated.  Altamont consults with TEAM on the following:

  • Wastewater Permit Compliance—Altamont prepared an Industrial Wastewater Survey and Permit Application package for submittal to the Town of Andrews.  This required Altamont to conduct an interview with TEAM to acquire information regarding the wastewater at the facility.  The interview focused on determining the quantity, supply and use of wastewater in the Andrews facility, and methods currently employed to reduce contaminants in discharged water.
  • Stormwater Permit Compliance—TEAM has a permit to discharge stormwater under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).  In accordance with the permit Altamont collects stormwater samples semi-annually throughout the year and has them analyzed by a North Carolina certified laboratory.  In addition, Altamont conducts a visual inspection of the stormwater outfall locations.  Altamont reports the results of the sampling event to the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
  • Air Permit Compliance—On behalf of TEAM, Altamont submitted an application to renew TEAM’s air permit that was going to expire in June 2010.  The air permit renewal application included an inventory of emissions for permitted sources for the prior year.  Altamont has also provided consulting services for TEAM regarding new air permitting rules and preparing air permit modification applications.
  • Risk Management Plan Development and Updates—In accordance with section 112(r) of the Clean Air Act, the Chemical Accident Prevention Provisions require facilities that produce, handle, process, distribute, or store certain chemicals to develop a Risk Management Program, prepare a Risk Management Plan (RMP), and submit the RMP to EPA.  Altamont updated TEAM’s RMP and submitted it to the EPA.
  • Tier II Inventory—In accordance with the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), TEAM is required to report the locations and quantities of chemicals stored on-site to state and local governments in order to help communities prepare to respond to chemical spills.  On behalf of TEAM, Altamont completes a Tier II inventory and submits to the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management every year.
  • Toxics Chemical Release Inventor—In accordance with EPCRA Section 313, TEAM must report to the EPA on an annual basis data on releases and transfers of certain toxic chemicals from their facility and make the data available to the public in the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI).  On behalf of TEAM, Altamont completes and submits the required documents to the EPA every year.
