Storm Damage Assessment & Streambank Stabilization
Mitchell and Yancey County, NC
Details:
National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Streambank Repairs: Altamont was contracted to design, permit, and manage the construction of streambank repair, surface water quality protection, and landslide stabilization projects related to storm damage in Mitchell and Yancey Counties. The projects cover the entirety of both Yancey and Mitchell County. Construction budgets totaled in excess of $7,500,000.
Challenges:
Project challenges included a strict project deadline, over 90 individual project sites including some 95 miles of impacted streams, high quality trout waters and endangered species, extensive design and permitting issues, historical resources, diverse multiple stakeholders, and multiple construction projects using a variety of contractors.
