RiverLink, Swannanoa Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs): Altamont and Landmark Landscapes, Inc. designed and implemented four separate BMP demonstration projects in the Swannanoa Watershed for the local non-profit environmental group, RiverLink. The four projects involve of a variety of site conditions, multiple stakeholder, and stormwater management features including raingardens, a stormwater wetland, bioswales, and enhancement of streambank vegetation. Demonstration sites were chosen due to the diversity of sizes, locations, and stakeholders to demonstrate the use of urban BMPs to abate stormwater runoff in order improve water quality in the Swannanoa River. The demonstration sites have provided both the intended stormwater abatement, as well as educational opportunities and aesthetically pleasing landscaping for the properties.

The project had a strict schedule and included site design; obtaining 401/404 permits, city grading (sediment and erosion control) permits, conservation easements; meeting with multiple stakeholders, and effective project management.
