Altamont's staff of professional engineers, geologists, and environmental specialists has successfully completed environmental assessments, remediation, and site closure for numerous industrial and commercial sites of varying complexity.  Our experience includes work on federal Superfund sites; assessment, remediation, and closure of multiple state-led CERCLA and RCRA projects; and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessments.

Site Investigation and Remediation

Altamont has completed environmental assessment and remediation of all types of contaminated media.  Environmental projects range from Phase I and II Site Investigations associated with property transfers to complex Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) studies, contaminant fate and transport modeling, remediation system design, installation, operation, and maintenance.  Altamont has successfully designed and implemented a variety of in situ techniques, including enhanced bioremediation and monitored natural attenuation to remediate contaminated soil and groundwater in a variety of geologic settings.

Remediation System Operation and Maintenance (O&M)

Altamont currently provides Operation and Mainenance (O&M) services on groundwater remediation systems ranging in complexity from single-well systems producing low flow (two gallons per minute) to large multi-well systems that produce in excess of 40 gallons per minute.  We also install and maintain vapor mitigation systems for remediation of indoor air contaminants.

Brownfields Site Redevelopment

Altamont's services include managing contaminated parcels that qualify for acceptance into Brownfields programs.  In Western North Carolina, we completed one of the first Brownfields projects under this program.  At another site, an older, closed landfill was successfully redeveloped and is now the location of a successful outdoor equipment company.  In early 2010, Altamont secured the necessary permits and agreements to allow redevelopment of a closed industrial waste landfill in Haywood County, North Carolina for use as a regional livestock auction facility.

Atamont's Brownfields experience involves managing the environmental risks associated with demolition and disposal of outdated structures and equipment as well as latent environmental impacts to soil and groundwater.  Our experience includes work on complex industrial sites such as textile miills, forest-products facilities, and munitions manufacturing sites where we have completed pre-demolition asessments to identify building materials (e.g., lead paint, asbestos-containing materials), equipment (e.g., transformers, mecury switches), and residual chemicals that would pose a risk during demolition.  We routinely work with subcontractors to remove unsuitable materials and demolish outdated structures.

On all Brownfields redevelopment projects, we listen to our clients to understand their vision for site redevelopment and then we establish an assessment and remediation approach to achieve that vision.
